14.     Clinical Service Contributions:

-   Created first pain psychology program at the Atlanta VA Medical Center in over 10 years

-   Expanded Pain Psychology services at the Atlanta VA Medical Center from two small psychoeducational groups to a full program which included group interventions, individual pain-focused therapy, and treatment options available via clinical video telehealth.

-  Allowed for the relocation of pre-surgical evaluations for spinal cord stimulators at the Atlanta VA Medical Center to be moved from Neuropsychology service to Pain Psychology, reducing wait time for procedures from over 6 months to within 4 weeks

-  Evaluated over 1000 patients for co-morbid chronic pain and psychological diagnoses and developed interdisciplinary treatment recommendations

-  Conducted (or supervised completion) of over 90 pre-surgical psychological evaluations for spinal cord stimulator implants

-  Assisted in the development and creation of the Atlanta VAHCS first interdisciplinary clinic for management on complex chronic pain (i.e. the Complex Pain Clinic within Anesthesiology Pain Management/Pain Division).  This is an interdisciplinary clinic comprised of a board certification anesthesiology pain management specialist, addiction psychiatrists, and pain psychologist; the team works together to provide comprehensive assessment and treatment of veterans with chronic pain who have historically been prescribed high doses of opioids.  The team develops integrated treatment recommendations to assist in helping veterans reduce opioid use and identify additional methods of managing chronic pain.  

-  Participated in the revision of health psychology team’s role in the VA MOVE! Program, enabling veterans to receive up to date/state of the science information and interventions within the psychological portion of this program

-  Participated in the revision of the Atlanta VAHCS Smoking Cessation Program, including adapting to serve veterans by VA Video Connect, enabling veterans to continue to receive services and enabling veterans to receive up to date/state of the science information and interventions for nicotine cessation

My previous research focused on the way in which individuals and families cope with pain and

illness, as well as psychological interventions to assist with coping with Fibromyalgia. My research then shifted to clinical/program evaluation of interventions for chronic pain.  I am also interested in evaluating Health Psychology Training programs.
